What CBD oil can do for your pets

In recent years, research has shown that CBD can help dogs, cats and other pets with cancer, seizures, pain, anxiety and other conditions.

As we learn more about the effects of CBD for humans, we naturally ask the question: could CBD oil help our pets?

A growing number of veterinarians believe cannabidiol (CBD) products can be effective in treating a range of conditions in dogs and cats, from anxiety to loss of appetite.

CBD oil for dogs

Scientifically speaking, dogs (and most mammals) have similar anatomy to humans. Studies over the past decade have shown that the endocannabinoid system is found in most mammals. Considering that CBD works directly with this nervous system, we can confidently assume that CBD will have some sort of impact on our dogs. Early research and anecdotal testimonials show that CBD oil has helped our pets in many different ways. Here is a list of different conditions that CBD has been found to help treat (and/or cure) your pets:

  • Allergies
  • Anxiety
  • Appetite
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Pain
  • Deteriorating Quality of Life
  • Digestive Issues
  • Fatty Tumors
  • Glaucoma
  • Homeostasis
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Inflammation
  • Joint & Mobility Issues
  • Phobias (Fireworks, Thunderstorm)
  • Seizures
  • Skin Problems

CBD for our pets is available in many convenient forms. Extracts can be put directly into the mouth from a dropper bottle, added to food, dropped on a treat, rubbed on bare skin or in the ears, or dropped on a pet’s paw to be licked off. Dosage can vary greatly from one situation to the next. It may be necessary to experiment a bit to find the right amount and frequency of administration.

Recommended CBD dosage for pets
Typical recommended starting dose: 1 mg – 5 mg of CBD per 5 kg of body weight. Start with a dose at the lower end of the range. Changes usually occur within 30 minutes. If no change has occurred after one hour, increase the dose. Occasionally, improvements can be expected after more than one treatment. For pain control, give about every 8 hours. For other uses or to break unwanted behaviour patterns, give once or twice daily. Remember that you cannot overdose and that there is no toxicity associated with CBD.
